A View of Morgan Run

Eldersburg photographer visits local stream.

One of the places we like to visit just minutes from the house, is Morgan Run.

We go to the lot used by fishermen to park. I like to take photographs and the granddaughters like to work on their skipping stones skills. I was there in the summer and returned again about a week ago.

During the summer I shot with the water stopped, while in the last visit I used a lower shutter speed to capture the flowing water. I like the lower shutter speed, but you have to remember to pack a tripod and a graduated neutral density filter.

The filter cuts down on the amount of light going to the camera, which is nice on a sunny day. I hope to go back soon before the last of the leaves fall.

George, do you know much about trout? Morgan Run is mostly designated "Wildlands" and is listed on DNR's site as a protected trout stream. I've always wondered where the trout might be located as Morgan Run seems very shallow. Maybe it's deeper in early spring. I've walked up it with my kids several times in warm weather, but we've never seen any fish larger than a minnow. I've never understood why they won't allow bikes at Morgan Run, but horses are OK when they make far more mess. There are so many great trails in Morgan Run, it's a shame people can't ride them.

Yes, I know it's a trout stream and have thought about wetting a line there. But in all my visits there, I have seen one fish caught. That was during our last visit.
