Mega Tree Planting Planned in Carroll County

Volunteers are needed to help plant more than 1,000 trees.

Earth Day continues through the weekend in Carroll County, where multiple organizations are teaming up to plant more than 1,400 trees.

Washington Gas Energy Services, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Sterling Planet will plant the trees with help from volunteers along a stream at Gravel Springs Farm in Union Bridge.

It marks the fourth annual Earth Day tree planting, according to Washington Gas Energy Services, which reported there would be speakers at the event.

Volunteers and employees of the companies will come together to restore more than 5,000 feet of stream bank covering 10 acres, which will help prevent runoff and toxins from flowing into the watershed, according to Washington Gas Energy Services. The idea is to improve air and water quality in the Chesapeake Bay region.

The tree planting will take place, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at Gravel Springs Farm, 3401 Lowman Lane, Union Bridge. Register here.
