UPDATE: Woodbine Woman Dead After Shooting, Boyfriend Charged

A woman was shot Sunday morning on John Pickett Road, Maryland State Police said.

The Woodbine woman critically injured in a Sunday shooting died shortly after 9 a.m. Monday morning, according to Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley.

Brittany A. Warfield, 21, was pronounced dead Monday morning at Maryland Shock Trauma, Shipley said.

Warfield's boyfriend, William R. Brueckmann, 26, has been charged in the shooting and more charges in the incident are pending, Shipley said.

UPDATED (8:33 p.m.)—Maryland State Police have charged a man in connection with the shooting of his girlfriend Sunday morning in Woodbine.

The incident took place in the 6800 block of John Pickett Road around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from state police.

Police said William R. Brueckmann, 26, of the 6800 block of John Pickett Road, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and felony gun charges. Police said additional charges are possible, and Brueckmann is being detained at the Carroll County Detention Center.

His girlfriend, Brittany A. Warfield, 21, of the same address, was in critical condition at Maryland Shock Trauma as of 8 p.m., police said.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

A neighbor called 911 and reported to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office hearing a gunshot nearby during a possible domestic argument, police said.

First-responders arrived to find Brueckmann in the backyard holding Warfield, who had been shot. She was flown by medevac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma.

Bruckemann was questioned, and police eventually charged him after learning an argument led to the shooting. The arrest was made after conferring with the Carroll County State's Attorney's Office.

Police remained on the scene Sunday night to obtain evidence.
