Broken Gas Line Causes Police to Close Liberty Road, Evacuate Area Businesses

A gas line cut by contractors caused Liberty Road to be closed for more than two hours Wednesday.

A large diameter gas line was broken this morning by contractors and part of Liberty Road in Eldersburg was closed as a result, according to the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department.

Firefighters received the call around 9:30 a.m. and remained on the scene for about two hours. Maryland State Police were requested to close Liberty Road from Georgetown Blvd and Route 32 along with the main entrance to a shopping center, according to the fire department.

The four-inch high pressure line was broke in the 1300 block of Liberty Road near the PNC bank by a Bearcat left running. The bank was evacuated as were other buildings once firefighters arrived on the scene.
