Carroll County Track Coach in Serious Condition Following Car Crash

Car of Francis Scott Key High School coach Timothy Patrick Walsh was hit nearly head-on by a dump truck Wednesday morning, according to Maryland State Police.

A Carroll County High School track coach was involved in a car collision Wednesday morning when a dump truck hit his vehicle nearly head-on, according to Maryland State Police. 

Following the crash shortly after 7:30 a.m., Francis Scott Key High School coach Timothy Patrick Walsh, 29, of Westminster, was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. 

Walsh was listed in serious condition Wednesday afternoon, according to an article by the Carroll County Times.

Walsh was driving a Nissan Altima west on Uniontown Road near the intersection of Royer Road when he was struck by a dump truck owned by D.D. Freed out of Mount Airy, according to the Maryland State Police. 

The driver of the dump truck was James Gregory Howard, 49, of Sykesville. He was following two other dump trucks when he turned and struck Walsh's vehicle, police said.

Walsh began coaching at Francis Scott Key in 2005 and in 2006 he helped coach the boys cross country team to its first state championship since 1990, before moving onto coaching the Class 2A state volleyball champions in 2009, according to an article by the Carroll County Times.
