Deputy Sheriff Candidates Graduate with Honors

Nine Carroll County Sheriff's Deputies graduated from the Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commission Academy.

Sheriff Kenneth L. Tregoning and the Carroll County Commissioners announced the graduation of Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commission Academy Class #22 Friday morning, in the Scott Auditorium at the Carroll Community College.

Among the graduating class were nine Carroll County Deputy Sheriff Candidates:

  • Stephen Hensley aged 25 who was nominated by his peers as Class President;
  • Steven Rager aged 38 who was recognized with the Lee Goldman Achievement Award;
  • Brian Moore aged 27, and Lindsay Smith aged 22 – both of whom were recognized with Physical Fitness Achievement Awards;
  • William Barget aged 20;
  • Brian Colussy aged 27;
  • Kelsey Corter aged 22;
  • Peter Trageser aged 22, and 
  • Christopher Youman aged 33. 

Thursday’s Academy Graduation signifies the conclusion of 26 continuous weeks, (1040) hours of academic and practical law enforcement training, covering Criminal and Constitutional Law, Use of Defensive Tactics and Weapons, Arrest procedures, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Community/Problem Oriented Policing, Criminal Investigations and Traffic Enforcement, according to a news release.

Following graduation, each of the deputy sheriff recruits will be paired with an experienced deputy sheriff for ten weeks of field training.
