Deputy Sheriff Candidates Report to Sykesville for Police Training

The new recruits will enter a 24 week entry level police training program.

Carroll County Sheriff Kenneth L. Tregoning announces the appointment of nine Deputy Sheriff Recruits to the Police Entry Level Training Program on the campus in Sykesville, according to a press release.

Enrollment of the nine recruits into entry level training marks the second year of a three year transition of primary police services from the Maryland State Police Resident Trooper program. The program was approved by the Board of Carroll County Commissioners on Dec. 23, 2010.  

The new recruits reported Monday morning for their first day of the 24-week entry level police training program.

During the next six months, the recruits will receive 960 hours of academic and practical law enforcement training covering Criminal and Constitutional Law, Use of defensive tactics and weapons, arrest procedures, emergency vehicle operations, community problem oriented policing, criminal and traffic collision Investigations.
