Driver Flown to Shock Trauma After Truck Overturns in Carroll County

The driver from Pennsylvania was operating a Freightliner truck early Friday morning.

A Pennsylvania man was flown to shock trauma early Friday morning after the truck he was driving overturned in Carroll County, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

At 5:05 a.m. Friday, Carroll County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the intersection of Y Road and Middleburg Road near Keymar for reports of a car collision.

Deputies discovered that a 1999 Freightliner truck and trailer loaded with bulk powder cement and travelling westbound on Middleburg Road had failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the roadway and overturned in a field adjacent to the roadway, according to the release.

The truck’s only occupant, driver Paul T. Valeriano, Jr., 61, of Fleetwood, Pa. was initially pinned in the cab of the truck, but was freed by fire and rescue personnel from the Union Bridge and Taneytown Fire Companies. 

Valeriano was flown to the Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center by State Police Helicopter where he is listed in guarded condition, according to the release.

Middleburg Road was closed for approximately 2 hours due to the collision.

The Sheriff’s Office investigation continues and charges are pending the outcome of that investigation, according to the release.
