Elderly Woman Dead After Son Allegedly Hit Her With Bus

There were no passengers on the bus that was backing into a driveway at the time of the incident.

A man backing up his privately owned school bus in Taneytown hit and killed his mother Wednesday morning, according to police.

Ronald C. Hammond, 60, was reversing into his driveway in the 5100 block of Bowers Road in Taneytown around 8:40 a.m. when he struck his mother Virginia A. Hammond, 84. 

She was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police where she later died from her injuries.

Ronald Hammond was returning from his morning rounds and driving a 2002 Chevrolet BlueBird school bus when Virginia Hammond reportedly walked behind the vehicle. 

The fatal collision is still under investigation by Maryland State Police.

The bus --owned by the Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg-- was not transporting any passengers.
