Glen Rock Man in Critical Condition Following Collision

Police said icy weather may be a factor.

The icy weather may be a factor in a collision on East Deep Run Road this morning that left a man in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff's Department, at approximately 8:10 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision along the 100 block of East Deep Run Road. 

Upon reaching the scene, Sheriff’s Deputies discovered a 1997 Ford F350 Truck with significant front end damage and a 1997 Dodge Van entangled in the roadway.

According to a news release, the investigation revealed that the truck lost control as it traveled eastbound along East Deep Run Road, where it crossed the centerline and struck the oncoming Dodge Van.

The news release said the impact collapsed the van’s passenger compartment, trapping the operator for nearly an hour as Fire-Rescue personnel from the Pleasant Valley Fire Company worked to free the man.

The van’s driver, 21 year old Andrew Green of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he remains in critical condition. 

The truck’s operator, 29 year old Tom Bauerlien of Taneytown was not injured during the collision. Investigation, rescue and clean-up efforts forced the closure of Deep Run Road for more than two hours.

The Sheriff’s Office Investigation continues and charges are pending the outcome of that investigation.
