Icy Roads Result in Fatal Weekend Crash

A car crash leaves one dead when a woman loses control and hits a tree.

A fatal single vehicle collision in Hampstead left one dead Saturday night. 

Michelle Finesse Hughes, 50, was transported to Carroll Hospital Center where she was later pronounced dead. 

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Barrack in Westminster responded to the area of Houck Road south of Neudecker Road around 10 p.m. Saturday for a single vehicle collision.

The vehicle was identified as a green 2003 Jeep Wrangler with a tan soft top traveling from Reisterstown. There were four occupants in the car at the time of the crash, according to the Maryland State Police. 

Near the intersection of Jocks Drive, south of Neudecker Road, the Jeep slid on an icy portion of roadway. The Jeep lost control and slid off the east side of the road traveling down an embankment and striking a tree and a fence.

Damage was sustained primarily on the driver’s side. Investigation found that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The other three occupants were presumed to be belted or in an appropriate child safety seat.

At this time drugs and or alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
