Man Charged in South Carroll High School Threats

A man who reportedly thought it would "be fun" to see how officials would respond has been charged in the South Carroll High School threats that prompted a four-hour lockdown last month.

Timothy Edgar Baker, 20, of the 2600 block of Walston Road, has been charged with threatening arson, two counts of paraphernalia possession, three counts of telephone misuse and making a false statement about a destructive device, according to online court records.

Baker, who was arrested at his Mount Airy home on Monday, told the Carroll County Sheriff's Office that he and his acquaintances "thought it would be fun" to see how police would react to the threats, according to the Carroll Eagle, which reported investigation into other individuals was ongoing.

Police were tipped off anonymously that they should investigate Baker, the Carroll County Times reported, and the Carroll County Sheriff's Office was able to trace the calls—which he said two of his friends made on his cell phone—through an app to an IP address at Baker's residence.

School officials put South Carroll High on lockdown until 6 p.m. on March 20 after receiving multiple calls, including one that threatened to make the school "turn into Columbine," according to WBAL.

Baker, who was being held without bail, has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 30.
