One Dead, Two Injured in Collision Near Walmart

Myrtle Coghill of Sykesville was pronounced dead at Carroll Hospital Center.

A woman was killed two men injured Sunday in a collision in front of the Eldersburg Walmart, according to Maryland state police.

On Sunday, March 25, around 11:20 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack responded to a car collision on Liberty Road, west of Georgetown Boulevard. 

A 2005 Chrysler traveling eastbound on Liberty Road turned left toward Walmart, hitting a 2006 Nissan traveling westbound, according to a press release.

The front seat passenger of the Chrysler, Myrtle Coghill, no age provided, of Sykesville, was transported to Carroll Hospital Center and was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as James Calvin Hale of Sykesville, also no age provided, was transported to Carroll Hospital Center with unknown injuries. The driver of the Chrysler was identified as Wallace Coghill of Sykesville; he was transported by ambulance to Shock Trauma with unknown injuries, police said.

The westbound lanes of Liberty Road were shut down for several hours, and traffic was detoured onto Georgetown Boulevard. The Maryland State Police C.R.A.S.H. Team was also consulted regarding this investigation. 

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this time, according to police.
