UPDATED 10:20 p.m.: Police Evacuate Homes, Investigate Death in Carroll County

State Troopers are investigating the death of a man found in his home Friday.

An autopsy of a Carroll County man found dead in his Taneytown townhouse Friday night indicates he may have died as a result of an explosion, according to a Maryland State Police press release. 

The medical examiner ruled that Carey M. Landskroner, 44, of the 400 block of Red Tulip Court in Taneytown died from “mobile trauma,” which can result from an explosion, according to police. The medical examiner has not ruled on a manner of death but narrowed it to either accidental or suicide, according to the release.

Investigators learned through interviews with neighbors that a loud bang was heard Wednesday night from the area of Landskroner's home. The medical examiners told police that Landskroner could have been dead since Wednesday. 

Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, Maryland State Police received a call from a neighbor who said he went to check on Landskroner after not seeing him for a couple of days.

The neighbor saw an open window and moved aside blinds to discover the man on the floor. 

Maryland State troopers and Taneytown Police Department officers responded to the scene to find Landskroner dead with trauma to his left arm, leg and side. 

Holes in the wall and charring on a chair near Landskroner indicated that a type of explosion may have occurred in the home, according to Maryland State Police. 

About 25 homes were evacuated while technicians from the Office of the State Fire Marshal checked the home for explosives. No explosives were found and residents were allowed to return to their homes around 11 p.m. Friday. 

Maryland State Police crime scene technicians are continuing to investigate the scene.

A Carroll County man was found dead in his Taneytown townhouse by a concerned neighbor and an investigation into the incident cause Troopers to evacuate about 25 homes Friday, according to a Maryland State Police press release. 

Carey M. Landskroner, 44, of the 400-block of Red Tulip Court in Taneytown was pronounced dead at the scene. He was believed to have lived alone, according to police. 

Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, Maryland State Police received a call from a neighbor who said he went to check on Landskroner after not seeing him for a couple of days.
