UPDATED 2:52 p.m.: Police Arrest Three Men in Connection with Thursday Morning Thefts Behind Carrolltown Mall

The men were charged with theft and possession of marijuana.

Three men have been arrested in connection with multiple thefts from vehicles early Thursday morning in the housing development behind the Carrolltown Mall, according to Maryland State Police. 

Andrew John Mooney, 20, of the 9700 block of Evening Bird Lane in Laurel, John Raymond Stull, 19, of the 400 block of O'Brecht Road in Sykesville, and Zachary William Lee, 18, of the 11800 block of Ramsburg Road in Marriottsville were charged with possession of marijuana, conspiracy to commit theft, theft and theft scheme.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Maryland State Police troopers responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the Quail Meadow development near Ridge Road in Eldersburg. Responding troopers observed interior dome lights on in several vehicles and realized that vehicles were being entered and property stolen.

A witness in the area reported that a silver Volkswagon with tinted windows was observed driving in the area for an extended period of time. Information was also presented that a male wearing mostly black or dark colored clothing was seen getting in and out of the car.

A trooper saw a vehicle matching the description provided in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant in the 1700 block of Liberty Road.

Three people were observed near the vehicle. Troopers approached them and gained consent to search the vehicle from the owner. Upon entering the vehicle, troopers recognized the odor of marijuana, according to a Maryland State Police press release. 

Troopers found evidence of marijuana, and miscellaneous property belonging to citizens in the Quail Meadow Development including wallets, credit cards, GPS systems, handicap placards, cell phones and loose change. 

Anyone who discovered property stolen from their vehicle in the area is asked to contact the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack at (410) 386-3000.

A car was discovered early this morning with numerous electronic devices stolen from vehicles in the sub developments behind the Carrolltown Mall, according to Maryland State Police.

Troopers from the Westminster Barrack responded to calls of a suspicious vehicle driving through the housing development behind the Carrolltown Mall around 2:30 a.m. Thursday with several subjects wearing dark clothing getting in and out of the vehicle.

Police patrolled the area and discovered a vehicle in the development had been apparently ransacked.

At 4:15 a.m., police located the suspicious vehicle at the on Liberty Road across from Carrolltown Mall.

Numerous stolen electronic devices including GPS units and iPods were discovered in the suspicious vehicle, according to police.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information or questions is requested to contact the Westminster Barrack (410) 386-3000.
