Suspect Sought For Robbery With Baseball Bat in Sykesville

The incident took place at High's Convenience store on Village Road.

Maryland State Police are searching for a suspect in an early morning assault and robbery at High's Convenience Store in Sykesville Friday, according to a press release. 

Troopers have obtained a warrant for Daryl Lowan Webb, 21, of the 1800 block of Amanda Lane in Finksburg. He is charged with armed robbery, first degree assault, and theft. Additional charges are pending. 

At about 6:45 a.m. Friday, state troopers from the Westminster Barrack and  Sykesville Police Department officers responded to the High's Convenience Store at 7400 Village Road in Sykesville for a report of an assault with a baseball bat.

When officers arrived, they located a store clerk suffering from multiple injuries from strikes to the head and body. The 21-year-old clerk was transported by the Sykesville Volunteer Fire & Ambulance Company to Carroll Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the intruder entered the convenience store and threatened the store clerk verbally prior to using a bat to strike the clerk several times before fleeing the store.

A citizen observed Webb entering the store with the bat and tackled him, interrupting the assault, police said. 

The suspect fled in a dark blue 2006 Chrysler Sebring with Maryland tags 8AK5106. 

Police said an undetermined number of Maryland Lottery tickets were stolen in the incident. Investigators said the store clerk was threatened by a man with a baseball bat several days prior to the incident.
