'Suspicious Incident' Involving Man Approaching a Child Prompts Police to Ask for Community's Help

The Sykesville Police Department is asking for the community's help as they investigate reports of an adult male behaving suspiciously in an area neighborhood. 

On Tuesday, March 12, at approximately 7 p.m., an 11-year-old was approached by a white male in the area of Brandenburg Circle and Norris Avenue in Sykesville, according to the Town of Sykesville website.

The male was operating a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a Volkswagen, when he spoke to the child, saying he was sent by her parents to pick her up due to an emergency, officials said. The suspect never left the vehicle and the child did not have any contact with him and left, according to reports.

The police were notified after the incident. The area was checked, but the suspect and vehicle were not located, according to police reports. Officers continued patrols of the community but did not locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male, possibly in his 50’s with short, white hair and balding.
