Sykesville Man Surrenders; Accused of Abducting Boy, Assaulting Woman, Child

His surrender ends a weeklong search, according to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

A Sykesville man surrendered Sunday afternoon to Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies following a weeklong search into his whereabouts after a domestic altercation on July 4, according to a press release. 

Michael Andrew Terrell, 31, of Sykesville, was charged with second-degree assault, child abduction and disturbing the peace. 

On July 4 at 5:20 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to calls reporting a domestic assault in the front yard of a home in the 1300 block of Buckhorn Road in Sykesville.

Terrell allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and their 2-year-old daughter in an effort to gain custody of the child but was unsuccessful after his girlfriend took refuge with the child in a neighbor’s home, according to the release.  

Terrell returned to the home shared with his girlfriend and allegedly abducted her 8-year-old son before fleeing the area. Approximately 45 minutes later, Terrell released the 8-year-old to a family friend in Mount Airy, according to the release.

Sheriff's deputies were notified and the boy was returned to his mother unharmed. 

Terrell is being held without bail at the Carroll County Detention Center pending trial.
