Sykesville Teen Charged with Two Weekend Armed Robberies

Maryland State Police charged the teen as an adult for robberies at Tuesday Morning and Gaither Market and Deli.

Maryland State Police have charged a Sykesville teen with two armed robberies at Tuesday Morning in Eldersburg and Gaither Market and Deli in Sykesville on March 4 and 5. 

Joseph Schmier, 17, of the 7100 block of Jennifer Way in Sykesville, is charged with two counts each of armed robbery, first-degree assault and second-degree assault in addition to reckless endangerment, theft of between $1,000 and $10,000, theft of under $1,000. 

Schmier was charged as an adult with bail to be set Thursday evening.

Investigators with the police department filed charges against Schmier after interviewing witnesses and people who live near the crime scenes. 

On March 4, a robbery occurred at the Gaither Market and Deli store located along the 7200 block of Gaither Road shortly before 9 p.m.

Police said a lone suspect entered the store, brandished a knife and demanded money. The clerk complied and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then  fled the store on foot, heading south on Gaither Road. 

On March 5, Troopers were called to Tuesday Morning, a store in the 1200 block of Liberty Road around 7 p.m. where a lone suspect had entered the store, threatening two employees with a knife and demanding money. 

The two clerks handed the suspect an undisclosed amount of money from the two employees. He then assaulted one of the clerks before running away. The clerk suffered minor injuries. 

A second person could be charged in one of the incidents pending further investigation, according to a Maryland Sate Police press release.
