Winfield Fire Department Purchases First 'Safety House'

The newest addition will be used to educate children at local elementary school on home fire safety.

The  in Sykesville recently purchased their first "Safety House," but needs the community's help in making it suitable to educate local children on home fire safety.

The fire department bought the house for $5,500 from Cecil County's fire department on Dec. 11. The house is in need of refurbishing and Winfield is asking community businesses and organizations for help with making the structure presentable.

"This is a very exciting time for the department since we will now have our own safety house," read a post by Winfield Fire Department Prevention and Life Safety Chair Debbie Gartrell on the fire company's website. "We will be able to teach our children at Linton Springs and Winfield elementary schools home fire safety lessons."
