Are You Smart Enough To Be An American?

Take this exam to see if you would qualify for U.S. citizenship.

By Patrick Luse

Some ethnocentric individuals may not always consider immigrants to be "as American" as those born in the United States.

But they may be surprised to learn immigrants know quite a bit about American culture and history — perhaps more than many granted automatic citizenship through birth.

It's not exactly simple to become a citizen. In addition to filling out myriad forms, submitting to background checks and enduring personal interviews with government officials, there is much studying involved. Those seeking U.S. citizenship must pass a written exam to qualify as an official member of American society.

Imagine if you had to take a test to earn your American citizenship, even if you were born here. Can you recognize the Supreme Court justices' faces? Do you know what document ruled the land before the Constitution was adopted? Can you match the version of the American flag with the year it flew over the Capitol?

Do you have what it takes to qualify as an American? Take this sample citizenship exam posted by The Atlantic magazine to find out.

Then let us know how you did in the comments section below. Are you qualified as an American or are you looking at deportation?
