Carroll County Gets Positive

A new initiative lets the commissioners talk about what's going right in Carroll County.

There’s a lot of bad news in the world – that includes in Carroll County. But there’s also a lot of good news too.  One of the Carroll County Commissioners decided he wanted to devote some time to that, too.

Positively Carroll gives the Carroll County Board of Commissioners space to highlight the good works of county residents who are changing things for the better.

According to Commissioners’ spokesperson Roberta Windham, Commissioner Doug Howard asked the commissioners to start each open session Positively Carroll, 5 – 10 minutes of recognition for local do-gooders.

In its first appearance, on August 1, the commission recognized Maureen Dunn, a purchasing employee, who works with the private, non-profit organization Change. Through her efforts, Change will save about $10,000 a hear on janitorial services thanks to a new contract with a private company.

Col. Edward Rothstein, the garrison commander of Fort Meade was also recognized. He’s worked with the county on various economic development issues, according to Windham. Howard used Positively Carroll as an opportunity to thank Rothstein for his service and wish him luck in whatever comes next.

“Many county employees and county programs are recognized as leaders in their field around the state and the nation,” Windham told Patch.

“This initiative will recognize their efforts.  Even those employees who are not in positions with state-wide or national recognition are hardworking and innovative and Commissioner Howard believes it is important to recognize their efforts on a regular basis.”

Who do you think the Carroll County Commission should recognize?
