Department of Urban Development Awards Homeless Funds to Carroll County

Carroll County was approved for $373,509 in homeless program awards.

The Carroll County Circle of Caring Homeless Board received notice this week from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development that it’s FY2011 Continuum of Care application was approved for $373,509 in homeless program awards, according to a county press release.

Carroll’s seven programs were among nearly 6,000 homeless programs throughout the nation to receive funding. The Department of Housing and Urban Development Continuum of Care programs provide permanent and transitional housing to homeless persons along with supportive services including job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care.  

Local projects funded through this competitive process include: Human Services Programs of Carroll County’s Permanent Housing for Persons with Disabilities renewal at $123,530 for fourteen units; renewal funding for the Safe Haven facility at $86,135; and HSP’s Supportive Housing project for $44,000.

The Carroll County Health Department Core Service Agency’s Shelter Plus Care program serves seven individuals and two families and was renewed for $119,844.   

The Circle of Caring Homeless Board is a coalition of not for profit, faith based and public organizations that supports residents of Carroll County who are in crisis situations, stemming from financial, housing and health problems.
