Drivers Beware: Nighttime Lane Closures along West Side of I-695

Expect temporary overnight single and double lane closures along I-695 Sundays through Thursdays between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning.

Traffic congestion may get even worse for drivers along the west side of I-695, as the State Highway Administration completes its $5 million improvement project.

Construction crews are working to resurface two miles of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) between the interchanges at Exit 17 - MD 122 (Security Boulevard) and Exit 18 - MD 26 (Liberty Road) now through summer 2014, according to SHA.

Temporary overnight single and double lane closures along I-695 will occur Sundays through Thursdays between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning. Drivers may also encounter shoulder closures on I-695 Mondays through Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and on Fridays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., SHA reports.

SHA says drivers will have a "smoother, safer ride" once the project is completed.

"Resurfacing the pavement along this heavily traveled portion of the Beltway will help prevent potholes and keep the ride smooth," district engineer David Peake said in the press release.  "The work will be performed during off-peak hours to minimize traffic impacts. We ask that drivers use extra caution in the construction zone for their own safety and for that of workers."

The project includes pavement patching, storm drain system cleaning and repairs, new pavement markings and traffic signs and more.
