Freedom Area Trails Public Meeting Scheduled

The public is invited to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.

A meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 12 at 7 p.m. in the South Carroll Senior & Community Center to discuss the development of trails in the Freedom Area.

Recently, a Maryland Bikeways grant was awarded to Carroll County to complete a feasibility study and design work for a trail network that would improve bicycle and pedestrian routes between Eldersburg and Sykesville, according to a county government release.

Neighborhoods that may experience improved pedestrian and bicycle connectivity as a result of this project include Eldersburg Estates, Tydings Acres, Benjamin’s Claim, Arrington Estates, Brimfield, Bonnie Brae, Freedom Village, Carrolltowne and the town of Sykesville.

Representatives from Carroll County Land Use, Planning & Development and Recreation & Parks will share details of the Bikeways grant work plan including project timeline, potential trail corridors and project study area.

Carroll County’s Bikeways grant application was developed after receiving public input from a series of meetings beginning in October of 2011.  This meeting follows through on those efforts and the public is urged to attend and continue participating in this process.
