Wild Map Shows Flow of People to and From Maryland

Maryland lost net population in 2012. See where it went.

By Chris Helms

Which states would you guess Maryland exchanges the most population with?

A wild new data visualization shows how people move between states. Created by Chris Walker, the interactive map shows Maryland sends and receives the most people with Viriginia, Pennsylvania, New York and the District of Columbia.

The data comes from 2012, when Maryland actually lost 2,681 residents.

Head over to Walker's site, viznary.com, to experience the map. Hat tip to the Atlantic Cities, which aptly compared the full map to "peering into the scope of an alien hyper-rifle."
