22 Carroll County Teachers Achieve National Certification

Carroll County ranks fourth in the state for the number of nationally certified teachers.

Twenty-two teachers from the Carroll County Public School System recently achieved National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Carroll County ranks fourth in the state of Maryland and has 132 active nationally certified teachers.

National Board Certification is the highest credential in the teaching profession and is achieved through a rigorous performance-based assessment that takes between one and three years to complete and measures what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do, according to a Carroll County Public School System press release.

A successful candidate must have completed and submitted all required portfolio entries and assessment center exercises and meet the performance standard. National Board Certification is issued for a period of 10 years, after which a National Board Certification Teacher will have the opportunity to maintain his or her standing as a National Board Certified Teacher by satisfying a renewal requirement.
