From wine appreciation to pop culture to financial management, folks can take classes in just about any subject you can imagine at Carroll Community College. Here's a sampling of some unique non-credit classes being offered this fall.

Beatlemania, Life & Times of the Beatles: The Early Years (1940-1963)
Discover what made these four boys from Liverpool into an international phenomenon. See the rise of the band that still echoes in the ears of listeners today. Discuss the fascinating firsts this group of rock pioneers brought to music. Learn what influenced John, Paul, George and Ringo in the beginning of this rock legends’ career. The Doctor’s In: Caring For Dogs & Cats
Make informed choices when it comes to your pet’s basic veterinary care. Get advice from a professional veterinarian concerning your pet’s basic wellness exams, vaccinations and illnesses. Discuss diet options and making your own dog food. Debate obedience training and why it is needed. Tasting The Bubbles: Champagne Appreciation
Beneath the bubbles there is wine! All champagnes are sparkling wines, but not all sparkling wines are Champagne. Discover the differences and taste the sparkling wines of Spain, Italy, California and France as you compare Champagne to Prosecco, Moscato and Cava. Explore food parings to go with and glass-ware/stemware to use with your sparkly. Students must be 21 years of age. Advanced Chicken Keeping
Take your chicken info to the next level. Examine chicken nutrition as a way to increase profit whether raising chickens for meat or eggs. Dissect the new avian influenza, H7N9. Scrutinize food safety as is relates to chickens raised for meat or eggs. Review the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) and its benefits. Lock on the practices of biosecurity as a way to minimize diseases, predator control and parasite prevention. Switched jobs, retired or facing downsizing? Determine what to do with your retirement. Discuss five most common distribution options, how to avoid some IRS withholdings, employer stock, taxes, penalties and investment options. Review features of bonds, stocks and mutual funds; asset allocation; and impact of inflation on your long-term goals. Review traditional and Roth IRAs, and whether converting to a Roth IRA makes sense for you.
