Are Carroll County High Schools Challenging?

Five of Carroll County’s public high schools made the list of America’s Most Challenging High Schools, published annually by the Washington Post.

The schools, Liberty, Century, Winters Mill, South Carroll and North Carroll, were ranked based on the number of college-level tests given at the school in 2012 divided by the number of graduates that year, the Post said.

Amy McGovern "That is because they only teach off the MSA Tests and nothing else!"

Carol Bustin Frank-Clark "l wonder if this is why the schools are expecting so many kids to take The AP Courses and Tests...."

Denise Bigonette Scobee "I don't think, from graduated kids living the experience, that our high schools even begin to prepare our kids for a challenging college curriculum. Not all colleges offer a challenging curriculum either, but that's another subject! I think all our kids need to go to Carroll their senior year to give them a small taste of what's to come."

Arlene Croft "LHS was MUCH too easy. Students who are not in AP classes are not particularly challenged and have their butts kicked when going to college. Need much greater emphasis in all classes on how to write term papers and greater empasis on Math so they will pass the placement exams. So many of our grads have to take remedial courses when they go to college. To me that is a greater reflection on the education they get."
