Eldersburg Elementary Selected as Physical Education Demonstration School

The school was selected to share its good practices after showing a visiting team their philosophy and curriculum.

The Eldersburg Elementary School Physical Education Department has shown that keeping students fit and focused can be done. 

The school has been selected as a Maryland Physical Education Demonstration School for 2011-2013 by the Maryland Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. 

Eldersburg Elementary is one ten public schools that were selected this year from more than 1,400 state schools eligible to apply.

The program recognizes extraordinary physical education programs and teachers across the states and encourages other physical education teachers to visit and learn from their practices. 

The process takes place every other school year when teams of professionals visits public school that have applied to be Maryland Demonstration schools. After a staff review, the team visits the candidate school to spend the day observing classes and curriculum and evaluation the school's support for physical education.

Physical education teachers Billy Kavalos and Debbie Buenger will be recognized and receive a plaque and banner to display at the school at the 2011 Maryland Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance convention in October.
