Liberty High School Jazz Ensemble Wins ‘Grand Champion Award’ in New Orleans

The jazz ensemble traveled to New Orleans this month.

The Liberty High School Jazz Ensemble won the overall grand champion award at the New Orleans Choice Music Awards Cajun showcase.

The students stayed in New Orleans April 10-14. Directed by Brandi Jason, the LHS Jazz Band is one of very few in Carroll County. While they have traveled to other places with the rest of the orchestra, this was the first time the 25 students traveled as a jazz ensemble alone, as well as their first time competing.

“The judges told our kids that they were among the top jazz ensembles they’ve heard nationwide,” according to the Liberty High School Instrumental Music website.
