Local Board of Education Member Elected President of Maryland Board

Gary Bauer has been a member of the Carroll County Board of Education for 17 years.

Gary W. Bauer, member of the Board of Education of Carroll County, has been elected president of the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE).

Bauer became a Carroll County board member in 1994, and has been an active MABE member since that time. He has served on or chaired several MABE committees, including the Legal Services Association and the Group Insurance Pool. Bauer also completed MABE’s professional development program, the Boardsmanship Academy according to a news release.

In his remarks to members at the MABE conference, Bauer stated, “Board members have to be involved not only at our local levels, but at the state and national levels as well. In my 17 years as a Board member, I have come to realize it’s not enough to just be involved with our own Boards of Education. We have to do more.”

MABE Executive Director Dr. Carl Smith stated, “Gary Bauer is the consummate board member. He brings a record of distinguished service as a board member in Carroll County, and a history of service to MABE. Gary is widely read in the field of education and educational leadership, and his knowledge and experience will be invaluable in the challenging times ahead.”

Smith added that Bauer's responsibilities will include serving as the chief spokesperson on educational matters dealing with the state board, the superintendent and the governor.

Bauer assumed the president position on Oct. 7.
