Oklahoma Road Receives Top Honors As National Blue Ribbon School

The Eldersburg middle school is one of ten Maryland schools to receive national recognition.

has been selected as a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School receiving top honors by the Maryland State Department of Education.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools whose students achieve at very high levels or have made significant progress and helped close gaps in achievement, especially among disadvantaged and minority students, according to a school press release.

According to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in a school press release, "National Blue Ribbon Schools are committed to accelerating student achievement and preparing students for success in college and careers and their success is an example for others to follow."

The middle school was awarded Blue Ribbon status in December with State Superintendent Dr. Nancy Grasmick attending the school in April to celebrate with students and staff before her retirement.

Students at Oklahoma Road excel at high levels, with 67 percent of the student body earning Honor Roll status. Students in need of interventions in math and reading are identified and immediately provided assistance by middle school faculty and staff. ​

Oklahoma Road Middle School will be honored at a conference and awards ceremony to be held November 14 and 15 in Washington, D.C.
