Kate Engel was recognized this month with the distinguished service award from the Maryland Department of Education.

For more than 35 years Kate Engel has worked at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center, leading and inspiring others.

This month, the Maryland Department of Education honored Engel, president of the Center since 1992, with the Distinguished Service Award.

But for Engel, this isn’t work.

“I always refer it to having the best job in Carroll County. It’s hard to get a reward for something you like doing so much,” said Engel.

Through the center, Engel encourages students to channel their skills and interests into the exploration of a chosen career field, providing opportunities to develop relationships with the business and education communities.

The programs at the Career and Technology Center provide added value beyond the high school diploma through certifications, Advanced Placement credit, or articulated credits granted by colleges and universities.

“It is a great honor to receive this award,” said Engel. “To be recognized for something that is part of your life and love doing was an outstanding honor.”
