Superintendent Guthrie Presents School System's 'Vision 2018' Plan

Based on this five-year plan, do you believe Carroll County Public Schools is heading in the right direction?

Carroll County Public School leadership recently presented Vision 2018 -- a comprehensive plan to guide the school system through the next five years.

The plan, presented at a recent Board of Education meeting by Superintendent Stephen Guthrie, lays out four focus areas. These focus areas, which according to the presentation are derived from Board of Education Core Values and Beliefs, include:

  • Prepare Students to be Competitive in a Global Setting and Economy;
  • Provide Instruction That Meets Each Student’s Needs;
  • Recruit and Retain a Highly Qualified, Effective, and Diverse Workforce; and
  • Provide Secure, Orderly, and Modern Facilities.
Check out the Powerpoint presentation here.

The Vision 2018 plan will be monitored annually by the Superintendent of Schools and be a point of discussions throughout each fiscal year, according to the presentation

Progress toward the goals as well as communication of the plan will be regularly evaluated and adjusted as needed, according to the plan

The Vision 2018 plan intends to get local business more involved in local education initiatives with the Carroll Business Roundtable for Education.

Building on the successful model of the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, and local models in other counties, the purpose of the Roundtable would be to build an independent organization of business leaders to serve as a unified, committed partner with our school system, according to the plan.

Do you think this 5-year plan is a step in the right direction for the school system? Are there other areas of focus you would like to see included? Tell us in comments below.
