Veterans Day Programs at Local Schools

Schools in Southern Carroll County plan to recognize the armed forces on Friday.

Century High School

will be hold its 5th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 8 a.m. to noon. A continental breakfast will be served to veterans from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., followed by an assembly to honor the veterans from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Following the assembly, the living history museum will be open for students to see veterans’ artifacts and hear their stories from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Oklahoma Road Middle School

will hold a Veterans Day program on Friday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. A social hour will be held immediately following the vent in the school cafeteria.

Freedom Elementary School

The fifth grade at will be honoring veterans and those currently serving in the armed services on Friday, Nov. 11, at 9:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Anyone who has served or is currently serving is invited to the program. Students will be speaking and performing patriotic music in the opening ceremony. The Prelude and Posting of Colors will be done by McDaniel's Color Guard. Guest speaker Mac McCrea, a World War II veteran who flew with the Flying Tigers in China, will share his inspirational stories. 

South Carroll High School

will hold a Veterans Day reception on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. The event will include a tribute to veterans, the traditional 11-11 at 11 a.m. ceremony, a student reading of "In Flanders Fields" and the playing of Taps. In addition, U.S. History students will interview the veterans in attendance. Veterans interested in attending should call 410-751-3575.
