Health & Fitness

There's more to the muscle that meets the eye!

A lot of people don't get the results they want and quit the gym! If you want results look for a place that's serious about fitness because if you want to get results you have to be serious!

Most people who exercise on a regular basis are motivated by something.  Whether its to look good, lose weight, get ready for a high school reunion, fit into a pair of skinny jeans or just to get in better shape. When people see me exercising in the gym, they probably assume I work out for purely asthetic purposes.  Sure I like being viewed as a person who takes my fitness serious because I do!  Yes, my training sessions are usually more intense then the average gym goer.  I also prepare most daily meals myself because I understand the importance of clean eating.  I've also competed and placed very well in numerous natural bodybuilding contests over the years.  However, what really motivates me to lead a healthy and active lifestyle is my mother's death from heart disease at the young age of 51.  My mother, Jeanne, was what you call a skinny-fat person.  She was 5'4 and weighed just 135lbs but because of her inactive lifestyle, poor eating habits, stress and smoking cigarettes my mother's life was cut way too short.  I was only a young man of 21 when mama passed away, but what her death did for me is condition my mind for an active lifestyle and healthy eating.  After Jeanne, died in 1990, I began learning as much as I could about exercise and proper nutrition because I knew they would be the foundation I needed to live an active lifestyle.

I went to college to study Broadcast Communication because I had dreams of becoming a t.v. sportscaster.  My aspirations were to one day make it to the big time...ESPN.  Since graduation in 1994, I've had the opportunity to work and cover some great teams and sporting events during my time as a reporter.  From The Kentucky Derby to the Indianpolis 500 to the NCAA National Championship game (Kentucky won the 1998 championship) it's been a fun & memorable experience.  For the last 13-years I've been working as a freelance t.v. sportscaster at a local t.v. station in Baltimore (WJZ-TV).  Yes, I enjoy the heart pounding adreneline that I get before going on live t.v.  It usually takes me a few hours to unwind after doing a sportscast.  With that being said...there's nothing like the joy that comes from being an integral part of someone else's success in transforming their body and life!  That's why I'm thrilled to be opening up a second Gold's Gym fitness facilty right here in Eldersburg because I want to reach out and change the lives of as many people as I can.  Most people joining a gym do so because they have a specific result they'd like to reach but most stop going before they enjoy the benefits. Why? Because they try to do it by themselves and usually when you don't have support you're not going to be successful.  No one ever gets in shape just by signing up for a membership at a local gym!  You need a plan of action to follow and a support system with knowledge and compassion to help you get there.  The first step to your success is actually seeing yourself being successful at accomplishing your fitness goals.  If you can't see yourself as you want to be then it's not going to happen!  The second step is to find a fitness professional that's versatile enough to educate you about nutrition, program design for strength training and cardio programs that get results but also help you with conditioning your mind for success.  Again, if you can't see the end results in your mind then you're probably not going to me as successful.  A true fitness professional will have testimonials from current and past clients that will vouch for the effectiveness of working with him or her.  A true professional is there to support you through your journey.  A true professional provides motivation, program design and challenges you to reach your potential.  A true professional knows that in order for you to be successful at reaching your goals you have to be dedicated.  When we were looking into fitness franchises, the Gold's Gym model was the only one that appealed to us because they're serious about fitness.  Other gym models, like Planet Fitness are touting "no committment" as a way to entice people to sign up.  Well, if you're not committed to your exercise plan, then how do you expect to get results?  If you're looking for results, then join a club that's serious about fitness and committed to getting its members results!  Because at the end of the day that's what people joining a gym want...results!
