Boys Lacrosse: Century Edged by C. Milton Wright

The Wright Mustangs topped the Knights 12-11 Tuesday night.

Century hung in there and never got down as they dropped a 12-11 boys lacrosse game to C. Milton Wright.

The visiting Mustangs are one of the top public school boys lacrosse teams in the Baltimore area. They made it as far as the Class 4A/3A semifinals last Spring before losing in the state championship tournament.

"We gave up a lot of opportunities. We shot ourselves in the foot too many times, but they hung in there, some of these kids just gave us an outstanding effort and that is all I can ask from them,’’ said coach Jim Langrall.

C. Milton Wright led 12-8 with a goal with 5:53 left in the game. The Knights never put their heads down and came back to score three goals with just over two minutes left in the contest.

Brady Sipes found the net first for the Knights. C.J. O’Brien followed with a goal with only 1:53 left on the clock. Sophomore Dylan Lopez brought the home team within one with 1:13 left.

The Mustangs won the face off and was able to keep the ball away from the Knights. They turned the ball over once, but got it right back to preserve the win.

"On that face off, I was looking to get a possession so I could call timeout and put something in, but we couldn’t quite pick up the ball. Chris Boyer did a great job facing off tonight. It was just one of those times he didn’t get the ball. He took about 70 percent of the face offs that he went out on," said Langrall.

Christian Koch had a few big saves especially in the first half, which kept the Knights in the game.

"He came out big. He had a nice game. When Christian makes big saves early, good things happen for us. The team kind of rides that emotion. That’s a nice thing," said Langrall about Koch’s game.

Lopez had big game with a hat track. He also had an assist to go with his three goals. Nick Davis, Joe Trombetta and Sipes each had two goals. Camden Belinko and O’Brien had one goal. Davis, Sipes and Ryder Cavey each had one assist.

"We have a tough game Thursday night against Walkersville. They are going to be a good team this year. Last year against C. M. Wright, we took it tough," Langrall said looking ahead.
