Carroll County Girls Recognized at National Basketball Tournament

The Central Maryland Attitude AAU eighth grade basketball team recently placed 22 out of 44 teams at the GymRat Tournament at the University of Albany. Two players from Carroll County received special recognition.

Coach Heather DeWees said, "That is pretty impressive considering some of the best teams on the East Coast were there."

The entire 8th-12th grade Gymrat tournament hosted 238 teams from the USA and Canada, DeWees said.

Manchester-area seventh grader Mackenzie DeWees was named one of the top 30 players in the tournament out of approximately 500 eighth grade basketball  players.

Westminster's Kaila Brown was recognized with an honorable mention in the tournament. Brown will head to Winters Mill High School in the fall.

The Central Maryland Attitude eighth grade team will be heading to the AAU Nationals July 8-13 in Disney, DeWees said.
