Girls Basketball: South Carroll Cavaliers Top Visiting Thomas Johnson

The South Carroll girls scored their second victory of the week.

South Carroll won their second game of the week against a Frederick County team as they downed Thomas Johnson 58-40.

Earlier in the week the cavaliers defeated Linganore. South Carroll is 2-0 in the young season.

Thomas Johnson will be glad the week is over as they dropped back-to-back games to Carroll County teams. They lost to Century on Wednesday.

The Cavaliers had three players in double figures with Makaba Ndifang and Nicole Levy leading the way with 13 points each. Kristine Tennyson threw in 12 points.

South Carroll jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the game, but the visitors came back to tie the game at seven. Tennyson hit a bucket with 1:21 left in the first eight minutes to put the home team up 9-7 entering the second quarter.

South Carroll got in foul trouble midway through the second quarter, but stretched the lead to 26-18 at the half.

"Hey, it’s nice. We have a lot of kids that can play ball. So, I can turn to a lot of kids which is a really good thing. They are all willing to do work," said Cavalier Liz Padgett about the playing through the foul problems, as no players fouled out of the game.

The Cavaliers put the game away in the third quarter as they out scored the Patriots 20-5, with Levy hitting for seven.

Also scoring for the Cavaliers were Stacie Maring and Nicole Heim hitting for four each, Margaret Payne tossed in three while Kimberly Delonge, Kendall Noel, Paige Baxter and Emily Habighorst each had two points.

"They are a tough team, that point guard (Jaeshon Swann) and number 33 (Bailey Griffin) are pretty tough. You can’t let them beat you. They play hard all the time. They create for each other. They are a scrappy team. We played a great game," Padgett said about Thomas Johnson.

The Patriots were led by Bailey Griffin with 11 points.

Thomas Johnson won the junior varsity contest 47-18. Taylor Buffington had six and Kayln Duley had five for the Cavaliers.
