High School Sports: Knights Dominate Visiting Titans in Field Hockey

Century notched second shutout of the young season Thursday night.

Tuscarora had no answer for Kailey Wolfe and the Century Knights in Thursday afternoon's field hockey game.

Wolfe scored five second half goals to lead Century to a 5-0 win. The good news for the Titans is they don’t have to travel to Carroll County today.

On Wednesday, Tuscarora traveled to Winfield and lost 2-1 to South Carroll.

The game was played in a wind driven rain. Asked how the conditions effected the players, Century coach Terry Duryea said, "It can get a little slippery. It’s just a drizzle today. It’s not that bad."

Century dominated the game as they out shot the visitors 43-0 for the game. The Knights got off 30 shots in the first half alone.

"I think it hit the pipe three times, so I said we just had to keep shooting. It’s going to eventually go in. It has to when you have so many shots. The goalie was a decent goalie, just look up and try to get around her," Duryea said about her halftime talk.

Wolfe wasted little time putting the home team on the scoreboard as she scored less than two minutes in the half. She took a pass from Kylie Mario for the score.

Less than a minute later, Wolfe took the ball and drove half of the field to score on a fast break as she out raced the Titan defense.

Wolfe scored the next three goals at 12:21, 7:19 and 3:09. Abby Remenapp assisted on the third goal and Casey McCorkell on the fifth goal.

In two games, Wolfe has collected nine goals.

"She just has good deflection. She is in the right spot and she has a quick shot," Duryea said about Wolfe.

Century is 2-0 for the season and face county foe Winters Mill Tuesday at 4 p.m.
