High School Sports: Century Routs Tuscarora to Advance in Girls Lacrosse

The Knights topped Tuscarora 19-3 Saturday.

Century started slow, but finished strong to handle Tuscarora 19-3 Saturday morning.

The field was wet after early morning drizzle and thoughts were on the Century prom which was Saturday night. The Knights improved to 12-2 for the season and play again Monday.

"It started out very, very slowly and I can’t even blame it on the prom," said Century coach Becky Trumbo. "We have been doing it all year and as I told the girls eventually it is going to bite us in the butt. We can not continue to do this and dig ourselves a hole and then think we can all of sudden turn the switch and play.

"Now, come Monday, I’ll be saying it for the last time, if we don’t start the game like we need to, we can’t come out on top. We need to play a full 50 minutes. I have been saying that all year, so I’m hoping we will pull though come Monday."

Century was led to the victory by Angela Flister and Jill Remenapp. Flister scored five goals while Remenapp, a senior had four goals and seven assists.

Century scored the first goal of the game at the 23:59 mark and Tuscarora came back to knot the score on a goal by Caitlin Miller.

Trumbo called a timeout after Flister scored seven minutes later and had a few things to say to the Knights. They took the field as a different team and scored 12 goals in the final 10 mintues of the half. The Knights were up 14-1 at the half.

Trumbo went to the bench in the second half. DJ Braverman replaced Allison Remenapp to open the final half of play.

"You have to come to play every game," said Trumbo.

Also finding the net for the Knights in the game was Kailey Wolfe with three goals, Alice Mercer and Haley Bordner with two each and Abby Remenapp, Morgan Marrale and Tori Wright each had one goal.
