Liberty Girls Capture County Track Title

Liberty outdistanced Century 152-102 to grab the Carroll County girls track title Wednesday at Manchester Valley.

South Carroll was eighth in the meet.

The featured head-to-head battle of Century’s Maura Linde and Winters Mill’s Hannah Oneda saw both runners raise to the occasion. They traded the lead for the first three laps of the 1600 meter run before Linde pulled away on the final lap.

Linde broke a 19-year record with a time of 5:01.62. She was also a part of the 4x800 relay team that won gold and broke the county record.

"That was the one race that was my race. I really didn’t have too much of a plan," said Linde with ice of her left foot after finishing second in the 3200.

Oneda came back to take the 3200 meter run over Linde, also in a county record of 11:10.59. The record she broke was also 19 years old.

Ashley Ross paced the Lions with two wins in the 200 and 400 meter runs.

Winters Mill surprised the field to take the boys crown with 126 points to Century’s 103. Liberty was fifth and South Carroll seventh.
