Maggie McCormick Nominated for Lacrosse Award

The Penn State Sophomore is up for the Tewaaraton Award.

Eldersburg resident and Penn State sophomore Maggie McCormick has been nominated as one of the best players in college lacrosse.

McCormick, a Liberty High School graduate, was one of 25 people nominated for the Tewaaraton Award, according to the Penn State Athletic website. In this 2013 season, has scored 69 posts and leads the team in goals (39) and assists (30).  She’s also 12th in the country in points per game; 13th in the country in points; and 19th in assists, according to Penn State Athletics.  

The sophomore also made the ALC honor roll in 2012. She told Penn State Athletics that she chose the college because “it has the perfect combination of a quality education and an outstanding athletic program full of tradition."

The Award is named after the Mohawk name for the sport that has evolved into lacrosse, “Tewaaraton.” Lacrosse is one of the oldest team sports on the continent, according to the Tewaaraton website
