High School Sports: South Carroll Girls Win Cross Country Regional Title

The Cavaliers outrun Century and Liberty for title.

surprised the field to win the girls Class 2A West Region Thursday at Middletown.

The Cavaliers edged county foes Liberty and Century for the crown. South Carroll compiled 75 points to 77 for Liberty and 93 for Century. Liberty won the county title and Century the MVAL crown in October.

Century was the top finisher in the boys race as they were fifth with 118 points, Liberty was seventh at 154 points and South Carroll had 239 points for 10th place.

The South Carroll girls were led by Samantha Bingamen in third place with teammates Olivia Lowman, sixth; Tina Graf, 18th; Jessica Craig, 23rd  and Jessica McWilliams 25th.

Topping Liberty was Casey Sullivan in fourth followed by Sarah Rinehart, seventh; Kelly Thurmond, 17th; Caroline McNary, 21st and Marua Souders, 28th.

Century was led by Morgan Fagnant in 11th with teammates Beth Lang, 12th; Katie Todd, 13th; Erin Larkin, 19th and Lillie Cimmerer, 38th.

The Century girls are the defending state champions in Class 2A.

Liberty’s Greg Rinehart was the top local finishing boy in eighth place. Century’s Patrick Anske was 10th and the top finisher for South Carroll was Ryan Smith in 34th.

Next up to the state meet on Nov. 12 at Hereford High School. The schedule is as follows:
