The Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department was founded in 1933, and it continues to provide emergency service although a fire destroyed much of the station in February 2010. Plans to rebuild a new and improved headquarters are underway.
The fire department has five fire engines, an ambulance and several SUVs and pickup trucks. The station receives around 1,000 EMS calls and 2,000 fire calls per year.
