Sheriff Warns August Deadliest Month for Traffic Fatalities
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is part of a statewide initiative to crack down on speeding, reckless, aggressive and impaired driving.
According the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, August has proven to be the deadliest month in terms of traffic-related fatalities in Maryland. As a result, police have launched a statewide effort called "Toward Zero Deaths" to curb unsafe driving. According to the Maryland Highway Safety office, during 2011 a person was killed on Maryland roadways every 18 hours, totaling 486 deaths for the year. During the past decade, there have been proportionally more traffic-related deaths overnight in the month of August, making nighttime enforcement operations a focal point of current enforcement operations, according to a news release.
