Enroll now to be a part of the American Cancer Society's national cancer prevention study.
This evening the American Cancer Society (ACS) will kick off its initiative to sign up 425 Carroll County residents for its national Cancer Prevention Study (CPS-3). Enrollment for the study will take place March 12-16 in four Carroll County locations. The CPS-3 is a historic, nationwide study to help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer. The famous CPS-1 established the link between smoking and lung cancer in the 1950s and the more recent CPS-2 findings have linked obesity to cancer risk, according to an ACS news release. Enrollment will take place in Carroll County from March 12 -16. The goal is to enroll 425 participants that week according to a news release. …

It's time to get decked out in your best pink gear and walk a few miles to support our neighbors who are dealing with breast cancer. The second annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Mount Airy, a three-mile fun walk, will be held Sunday, Oct. 21 at Watkins Park, 615 Center St. in Mount Airy. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Funds from this event will support breast cancer research, information and services, and access to mammograms for women who need them. The annual fundraiser at Liberty High is organized through the American Cancer Society to honor both victims and survivors and to raise research awareness.
Participants of this year's Relay for Life for Freedom Area took to the track Friday after being delayed two weeks by rough weather across Maryland, with two confirmed tornados touching down in Carroll County the night the event was first scheduled. This time the air was clear and mild for the night of walking and camping out at Liberty High, which organizers spruced up with a "Broadway" theme. Belle Musique played the National Anthem while childrens had their choice between a water balloon toss, a sing-off contest, a midnight pizza and partycupcake wars, among other activities. The fundraiser, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, was the eighth annual event for the Freedom area. Those in attendance were reminded of four words…
