Citizen Exposed to Rabies in Sykesville

Officials are reminding citizens not to feed stray animals.

Sykesville town officials are warning residents not to feed stray animals after a citizen was exposed to rabies after trying to “rescue a distressed kitten,” town officials said on their Facebook page Tuesday. The person is now receiving rabies shots, according to the post. Animal control workers will also be placing live traps rear of the Main Street area in Sykesville, officials said. “The community is reminded not to feed stray animals or attempt to catch or contact them,” Sykesville officials wrote. “If you are concerned about an animal’s welfare, contact the Carroll County Animal Control at (410) 848-4810.” For more information on how to deal with human exposure to rabies, visit the Centers for Disease Control website.
