Devin Michael Spence, 23, of Westminster died tragically Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 as the result of an automobile accident. Born June 25, 1989 in Towson, MD, he was the son of Michael and Marjorie Sunderlin Spence. He was a 2007 graduate of Winters Mill High School where he was an active member and group leader his senior year of the Best Buddies program. His senior year he also accompanied the Winters Mill lacrosse team to their first state championship where they won first place. He graduated with a teaching degree from Towson University and was a math teacher at Manchester Valley High School where he was very committed to his students and was recently involved in the schools ski club and was the assistant coach of the Varsity girl’s …

A Jeep lost control and hit a utility pole police said.
A 6-year-old girl died in a single vehicle crash on New Windsor Road (Rt. 31) in Westminster Monday night, according to Maryland State Police. Police said they were called to the scene where a Jeep had hit a utility pole, at New Windsor Road and Wakefield Road, around 11 p.m. Monday night. Rise Berger, 39, of Union Bridge, was heading east on New Windsor Road when her Jeep slid out of control on the wet roadway and hit a utility pole, according to police reports. Berger's daughter, Marissa Carter, 6, who was in a child safety seat in the rear passenger seat, died from severe head trauma, police said. A man died as a result of the cardiac arrest he suffered while driving, law enforcement officials said.
A car crashed into Carroll Hospital Center Monday morning after a driver went into cardiac arrest and lost control of his vehicle, Carroll County Sheriff’s officials said. The man driving the vehicle, Thomas Carl Skipper JR, 78, died as a result of the medical emergency he suffered, according to the Carroll County Sheriff's Department. No one else was in the car and there were no other injuries, according to police. Police said the hospital sustained minor damage. Carroll Hospital Center officials would not comment Monday on the extent of the damage to the building, but said a county building inspector will assess it.

Just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, police report that a car lost control on Deer Park Road in Westminster, killing a 17-year-old passenger. According to a report from the Sheriff's Office, driver Nicolas Ryan Gaetani, 18, lost control of the Grand Marquis he was driving at Deer Park Road at Jeffras Court. Police said they believe he failed to negotiate a curve and crossed over the double yellow lane divider at which time his car was struck on the passenger side by a Dodge Neon. Seventeen-year-old Michael McVerry, a passenger in Gaetani's car, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel, according to police. Rt. 140 was closed for hours Friday afternoon.
One person is dead as a result of a three-vehicle collision on MD Rt. 140 between Sandymount Road and Bethel Road Friday afternoon. A Maryland State Police representative confirmed that a 71-year-old man died in the accident that happened at about 2 p.m. An article in the Carroll County Times reports that a maroon car was traveling west on MD 140 when it crossed the median and struck another car traveling east on MD 140. After striking the eastbound car, the maroon car then collided with a pick-up truck, also traveling east on Md. 140, according to the Times report. Leif Erik Foerter died in a car accident Saturday.
Sykesville resident Leif Erik Foerter, 35, died in a car accident on Saturday, Sept. 22 in Sykesville. Erik grew up in Charles County, MD where he lived for 27 years before moving to Sykesville. He had a strong work ethic and “can do” spirit that he brought to every aspect of his life. Erik loved his family and his adopted children Devin and Sophia. He was passionate about everything he touched whether it was machines, projects, or people. Erik was happiest when he was helping others. His infectious laugh and big smile would light up the room. A 35-year-old man died Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained when he was ejected from his Jeep during a two-vehicle collision in Eldersburg. Police were called to the scene at the intersection of Johnsonville Road and Piney Ridge around 1:15 pm. When they arrived, they found crews from the Sykesville Fire Department treating 35-year-old Leif Erik Foerter, according to police. Foerter was transported to Carroll Hospital Center where he succumbed to his injuries, according to a police report. Police said a Honda Accord traveling west on Piney Ridge Parkway entered into the intersection of Johnsville Road where it struck a north bound Jeep Wrangler. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is part of a statewide initiative to crack down on speeding, reckless, aggressive and impaired driving.
According the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, August has proven to be the deadliest month in terms of traffic-related fatalities in Maryland. As a result, police have launched a statewide effort called "Toward Zero Deaths" to curb unsafe driving. According to the Maryland Highway Safety office, during 2011 a person was killed on Maryland roadways every 18 hours, totaling 486 deaths for the year. During the past decade, there have been proportionally more traffic-related deaths overnight in the month of August, making nighttime enforcement operations a focal point of current enforcement operations, according to a news release. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is making motor vehicle accident reports available online. Motor vehicle accident reports completed on or after July 1, 2012, can now be accessed through the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Website at www.carrollcountysheriff.com or, www.policereports.us. Once there, scroll down to the map and click on Maryland and then click on “Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.” According to the department, in 2011 Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies completed 441 motor vehicle accident reports, with administrative staff manually processing several requests for copies of each report. A two-car collision ended tragically Thursday afternoon.
One man is dead after a two-vehicle collision on Rt. 97 at Nicodemus Road in Sykesville on Thursday, May 17. According to the Maryland state police, Norman Taubenfeld of Westminster was driving a 2012 Chevy Equinox on Nicodemus Road. When he attempted to cross Rt. 97 a 2000 Chrysler Voyager traveling south on Rt. 97 hit Taubenfeld's vehicle. Donnell Johnson of Marriottsville was driving the Voyager. Police said, based on statements from the drivers and witnesses at the scene, that Taubenfeld failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming vehicle.
